FOREMAN FOR COMMERCIAL / LIGHT INDUSTRIAL CONSTRUCTION
Johnston Builders Ltd. is looking for a motivated and experienced Foreman to join our team on a full-time basis. This role will initially be based out of Atikameg, Alberta, however, offers the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting projects across Western Canada. You’ll play a key role in delivering quality construction by ensuring strong site leadership and coverage when other key team members are on days off. Responsibilities include:
  • Work closely with project team during construction to project completion.
  • Oversee tasks and crews under the direction from the superintendent.
  • Plan and communicate daily work activities to site crews and trade personnel.
  • Help coordinate and scheduling construction on site. Help with completion / update 3 week look ahead schedules.
  • Help enforce project safety as per the Health & Safety program on site. Completion of orientations is expected.
  • Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task hazard assessments.
  • Help with completion of time sheets and manage all man hours on site.
  • Issue field Purchase Orders for some materials, equipment and small contract work.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and verify materials are available ahead of scheduled work.
  • Complete force Accounts as required.
  • Ensure a clean and organized site.
  • Ensure quality control and quality assurance during the construction duration.
  • Maintain accurate site records including daily reports, manpower tracking, site photographs, and field documentation.
  • Ensure work is conducted in accordance with Johnston Builders Operation Procedures Manual.
  • Complete labour / carpenter related tasks when needed.
  • Complete items on the deficiency report.
  • May manage small task orientated projects, close out project’s deficiencies, complete warranty work.
  • Fill in for Site Superintendent (short term) during holidays.
Ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
  • Ten (10) years of experience in construction and leadership
  • Experience delivering commercial, retail, institutional, and/or light industrial construction projects.
  • Journeyman carpentry ticket is preferred
  • Have a positive attitude, and solid interpersonal skills.
  • Know how to navigate through the Building Code.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding plans and shop drawings.
  • Proven attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Some computer skills include the ability to competently operate Microsoft Word, Excel, email, Bluebeam (PDF) writer.
  • Proven leadership qualifies, with the ability to coach, mentor and develop employees.
  • Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Very effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-Motivator with leadership qualities.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A solid understanding of commercial and light industrial construction.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
Hours of Work: The regular hours of work for this position are expected to be 44 hours per week. Due to the nature of the role and business requirements, the incumbent is expected to maintain a reasonable degree of schedule flexibility. Work schedules, start and end times, and weekly hours may be adjusted from time to time to meet operational needs.

Compensation and benefits:
You will receive a competitive wage range of $42.50-50 per hour, negotiable dependent on skills and qualifications along with a wide host of benefits including:
